Jamaat Announces New Program from October 1–12
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has unveiled a series of programs from October 1 to 12, pressing for its five-point demands, including holding the next national election in February based on the July National Charter. Earlier, the party staged a three-day program in September on the same demands.
The announcement was made by Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar at a press briefing held at the party’s central office in Al-Falah Auditorium, Dhaka, on Tuesday afternoon. The event was organized to outline the next phase of their movement around the five-point agenda.
Declared programs include:
Nationwide public outreach campaigns from October 1 to 9 to build opinion in favor of the five demands.
Discussions, roundtables, and seminars across the country.
A mass procession in the capital and all divisional cities on October 10.
Submission of memoranda to deputy commissioners across the country on October 12.
The five demands highlighted are:
1. Organize the next parliamentary election in February under the July National Charter.
2. Introduce proportional representation (PR) in both houses for the coming election.
3. Ensure a level playing field for all parties to guarantee free, fair, and acceptable polls.
4. Bring to justice the regime’s alleged oppression, killings, and corruption.
5. Ban the activities of the Jatiya Party and the 14-party alliance, which they label as allies of dictatorship.
In a written statement read at the briefing, Jamaat reiterated that it has consistently pushed for giving the July Charter a legal foundation, citing past precedents under the “doctrine of necessity.” The party claimed it has already made two proposals to the government:
Issuing a constitutional order to formalize the July Charter.
Holding a referendum before the next election to strengthen its legal basis.
Jamaat warned that without such recognition, the sacrifices made during the uprising and its achievements could be undermined.
The statement further noted that the government has taken no meaningful steps to address the public’s demands. According to Jamaat, its five-point agenda has already gained acceptance among the people. The party therefore insists that the next parliamentary election, scheduled for February, must be held under the framework of the July Charter.
Several senior leaders, including Assistant Secretary Generals Abdul Halim and Hamidur Rahman Azad, Central Executive Member Saiful Alam Khan, Head of Media and Publicity Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, and Dhaka South City Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul, were present at the press conference.
