Mohammedan defeated Abahani 1-0 at the Shaheed Bhasha Soinik Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Comilla. The only goal of the match came in the added time of the first half, when Souleymane Diabate scored for Mohammedan. Despite several attempts, Abahani could not equalize in the second half. With this win, Mohammedan moved to the top of the points table.
This was the first time in their football history that Abahani played without any foreign players. Despite the challenge, the team, led by coach AKM Maruful Haque, fought valiantly with the local players. On the other hand, Mohammedan dominated most of the match with four foreign players.
In the 12th minute, Mohammedan almost took the lead, but Emmanuel Sunday’s header went just above the crossbar. In the 20th minute, Diabate’s cross found Sunday, but he couldn’t direct his header on target. Five minutes later, a powerful shot from Muzaffarov from outside the box went high over the crossbar.
In the 40th minute, Emmanuel Tony’s shot from midfield was saved by Abahani’s goalkeeper Mitul Marma. Finally, in added time, Mohammedan broke the deadlock. Diabate headed in a cross from inside the six-yard box, and despite Mitul’s efforts, the ball went in. Abahani failed to find an equalizer in the second half, handing Mohammedan their first win against them this season.
