Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman has assured that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure a fair trial for the July-August massacre. He further stated that the Attorney General’s office is prepared to provide any necessary support for the proceedings.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, January 7, following the inauguration of the International Crimes Tribunal’s main building by Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed, the Attorney General emphasized that the killings of students and civilians during the protests in July and August suggest elements of crimes against humanity. As such, the tribunal will address these atrocities through a formal judicial process.
Responding to questions, he affirmed that the tribunal would follow international standards to ensure impartiality and avoid any controversies surrounding the trial. He expressed hope that justice would be served without disputes, unlike the criticisms faced during previous governments. Measures have been taken to establish fairness and uphold justice.
Chief Prosecutor Md. Tajul Islam, along with other state attorneys and tribunal officials, were also present during the event.
