A state witness, IGP Mamun, has been sentenced to five years in prison for crimes against humanity

During the Junai Mass Uprising–related war-crimes case, the International Crimes Tribunal has handed a death sentence to Sheikh Hasina, finding her guilty of crimes against humanity. She received death penalties on two separate charges in the case.

Another accused, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, was also sentenced to death. Meanwhile, former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, who appeared as an approver (state witness), received a five-year prison sentence.

The tribunal began announcing its 453-page verdict at around 12:30 pm on Monday (17 November).

According to the verdict, the tribunal concluded that the charges against all three accused—including Sheikh Hasina—were proven. Sheikh Hasina was given the death penalty on two counts, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal received a death sentence on one count, and Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun was sentenced to five years as an approver.
