U.S. President Joe Biden has described the wildfires raging in Los Angeles as resembling a “war zone,” comparing the devastation to targeted bombings. Speaking at the Oval Office on Friday, Biden was briefed on the latest updates regarding the wildfires, according to AFP.

“This wildfire reminds me more of a war scene,” Biden stated. “It looks as if bombs have been dropped on specific targets, creating a complete battlefield-like appearance.” He also acknowledged reports of looting in the affected areas, saying, “There is clear evidence of looting. We have confirmation that individuals are exploiting the chaos to loot impacted regions.”

For five days, Los Angeles has been engulfed in devastating wildfires, which began on Tuesday and have already destroyed over 10,000 structures. Approximately 35,000 acres have been scorched across five active fire zones, resulting in the deaths of 11 people and the destruction of thousands of buildings.

AccuWeather, a private weather organization, reported on Friday that the economic impact of the wildfires is estimated to be between $135 billion and $150 billion. Recovering from such extensive damage is expected to take a significant amount of time.
