On February 5, BBC reported that U.S. President Donald Trump delivered his first address to a joint session of Congress after assuming office for his second term. During his speech, he urged Congress to pass legislation to strengthen border security, stating, “America is back, and we have begun.” Trump emphasized that his new trade policies would benefit American farmers, expressing his appreciation for them. He also addressed the U.S. “Gold Card” program, reiterating that U.S. citizenship could be obtained for $5 million. Additionally, he discussed the issue of fentanyl smuggling from Canada and Mexico, noting that the influx had reached unprecedented levels, devastating thousands of families. Trump criticized the subsidies provided to these nations, asserting that the U.S. would no longer continue such financial support. He also pledged to maintain a balanced federal budget. His address followed his recent decisions to suspend military aid to Ukraine and impose a 25% tariff on goods entering the U.S. from Canada and Mexico, measures that took effect on March 4.
