With music, poetry, and a grand procession, Bangladesh welcomed the Bengali New Year 1432 in a vibrant celebration of tradition. As the first light of dawn broke on Monday (April 14), Chhayanaut’s annual cultural gathering under the Ramna banyan tree set the tone with melodies that honored the new sun. This year’s theme, “My liberation is in the light,” carried messages of hope—calling for an end to conflict and division, and for unity in harmony. The event also extended solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine.

Later in the morning, the “Boishakhi Rally of Joy” began at 9 AM from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, under the slogan “Symphony of the New Year, End to Fascism.” The procession featured teachers and students from Charukola, participants from various educational institutions, cultural activists, and people of all ages. Notably, the celebration drew international presence as well—students and tourists from countries like Japan, France, Russia, and Germany joined in, dancing, wearing traditional red-and-white Bengali attire, and playing flutes.

The rally showcased giant artworks made of bamboo and paper—masks, puppets, tigers, birds, and fish—depicting rural life and the deep connection between people and nature, adding rich texture to the festive scene.
