Bangladesh, Malaysia Ink Five MoUs, Exchange Three Notes to Deepen Ties

Bangladesh and Malaysia have signed five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and exchanged three formal notes to expand cooperation in areas ranging from defence and energy to education, trade, and diplomacy.

The agreements were formalised on Tuesday in Putrajaya, Malaysia’s administrative capital, in the presence of Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Details of the Exchanges and MoUs

  • Note on Higher Education: Signed by Malaysian Foreign Minister Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan and Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain.

  • Note on Diplomatic Training: Signed by the same officials, aiming to enhance skills and knowledge exchange between the two countries’ foreign services.

  • Note on the Halal Ecosystem: Exchanged between Malaysia’s Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Senator Dr Zulkifli bin Hasan, and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud bin Harun.

Five MoUs Signed:

  1. Defence Cooperation – Signed by Malaysian Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled bin Nordin and Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain.

  2. LNG and Petroleum Infrastructure – Covers LNG supply, infrastructure, and petroleum products; signed by Malaysian Acting Economic Minister Amir Hamzah bin Azizan and Bangladesh Energy Adviser M Fouzul Kabir Khan.

  3. Strategic Studies Collaboration – Between the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia and the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies; signed by ISIS Malaysia Chairman Datuk Prof Dr Mohd Faiz Abdullah and Bangladesh High Commissioner Md Shameem Ahsan.

  4. Technology and Trade Collaboration – Between MIMOS Services Sdn Bhd and the Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BMCCI); signed by MIMOS CEO Mohamad Fauzi Yahaya and BMCCI’s Shabbir Ahmed Khan.

  5. Business Cooperation – Between the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM) and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI); signed by NCCIM President N Gobalakrishnan and FBCCI Administrator Md Hafizur Rahman.

The agreements are expected to strengthen bilateral relations, enhance trade and investment, promote energy partnerships, and expand people-to-people and institutional links between Bangladesh and Malaysia.
