BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stated that the country cannot be governed indefinitely by an unelected government under the guise of reforms. Speaking at a discussion at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Saturday, December 28, he emphasized that reforms must be accompanied by initiatives to ensure good governance and reduce public suffering; otherwise, goals will remain unattainable. He also noted that attacking political parties or making critical remarks will not resolve crises.
Mirza Fakhrul criticized advisers for becoming involved in politics, making comments about political parties, and failing to engage with or support them. He reminded everyone that political parties are not adversaries of the government.
Reaffirming his belief in BNP’s return to power, he said, “If Allah wills, BNP will govern again. We have ruled before, but our politics has never been about power.” He also highlighted that Ziaur Rahman initiated the reform process by restoring multiparty democracy after the one-party rule of BAKSAL under the Awami League.
