Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Assistant Personal Secretary-2, Gazi Hafizur Rahman Liku, is accused of amassing wealth disproportionately in his wife’s name during his tenure in the influential position. Allegations suggest he misused his power to acquire most of the illicit assets under his wife’s name to evade accountability. On Monday, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed cases against both Liku and his wife, Rahima Akter.
According to the ACC, Liku possesses unexplained wealth amounting to BDT 5.53 million, while Rahima Akter holds illegal assets valued at BDT 232.6 million. Case documents reveal that Liku has declared movable and immovable properties worth BDT 12.85 million, of which only BDT 5.53 million is deemed illegal. In contrast, Rahima Akter’s assets include BDT 207.5 million in immovable property and BDT 25 million in movable assets, with BDT 232.6 million remaining unexplained after accounting for her legitimate income.
The ACC asserts that both individuals committed offenses under anti-corruption laws by retaining and benefiting from these ill-gotten assets.
