After a long gap of seven years, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is set to attend a political program. If all goes as planned, she will be present at the rally of the Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal (BNP’s freedom fighters’ wing) on December 21. The event, organized to commemorate Victory Day, will be held at the China-Bangladesh Friendship Conference Center in Dhaka. This information was confirmed by multiple party sources on Saturday.
The last time Khaleda Zia participated in a public political event was in February 2018. Sources indicate that her attendance at the upcoming rally depends on her physical health. To accommodate her condition, the rally is scheduled to last only two hours. Additionally, BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman will join the event virtually.
Sadeq Ahmed Khan, General Secretary of the Muktijoddha Dal, mentioned that Tarique Rahman has assured Khaleda Zia’s presence at the rally.
The Muktijoddha Dal has traditionally organized rallies and programs to mark Victory Day and Independence Day, despite facing numerous obstacles during the previous Awami League-led government. However, after the mass uprising earlier this year, party leaders aim to hold this year’s rally in a more favorable environment. Khaleda Zia has been invited as the chief guest, and responsible leaders have confirmed her agreement to attend.
Considering Khaleda Zia’s health, preparations are underway to host the rally at the China-Bangladesh Friendship Conference Center. Scheduled to begin at 3 PM on December 21 and conclude by 5 PM, the event will also feature BNP’s Standing Committee members and other top leaders.
