Chief Adviser to Embark on Four-Day UK Visit

Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of the interim government of Bangladesh, is set to visit the United Kingdom on a four-day official trip from June 10 to 13. He will leave Dhaka on Monday, June 9. During the visit, he will receive the prestigious “King Charles Harmony Award 2025.”
At a press briefing held earlier on June 4 regarding the UK visit, Acting Foreign Secretary Ruhul Alam Siddiqui stated that this is Dr. Yunus’s first trip to a European country since taking office. The visit aims to further enhance his already positive global image. During the trip, Dr. Yunus is scheduled to meet King Charles III as well as hold a bilateral meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Highlighting the importance of the UK as Bangladesh’s second-largest trading partner and a significant political ally, Siddiqui emphasized the strategic value of the visit. Discussions will include strengthening trade ties, especially in the post-Brexit era, and seeking support for enhanced GSP (Generalized System of Preferences) facilities. The visit will also cover cooperation in education and other key sectors. Additionally, Bangladesh is expected to raise the issue of recovering laundered funds from the UK.
