Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus Returns Home After UN General Assembly Visit

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has returned to Dhaka this Thursday morning after completing a nine-day official trip to New York, where he attended the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

He arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 9:00 am on an Emirates Airlines commercial flight, accompanied by his delegation, according to Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.

Earlier, on Tuesday night (local time), Yunus and his team departed from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury, and Bangladesh Ambassador to the US, Tarek Emdad Ariful Islam, saw him off.

During his visit, Yunus addressed the UNGA on September 26 and spoke at the opening session of a high-level meeting on the situation of Rohingya Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar on September 30.

On September 29, he met UN Secretary-General António Guterres, as well as UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, and Under-Secretary-General Rabab Fatima, who oversees issues relating to Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing States, and Small Island Developing States.

Yunus also joined a reception hosted by US President Donald Trump, where he invited the President to visit Bangladesh at a convenient time. In addition, he held bilateral meetings with leaders from several countries, including the Netherlands, Pakistan, Bhutan, and Kosovo.

The Chief Adviser had left Dhaka for New York on September 22 to attend the UNGA session.
