A man was shot and killed in front of the Dhaka National Medical Institute Hospital in Old Dhaka on Monday morning. He was discovered lying on the ground with bullet injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after being taken into the hospital.

Witnesses and police said the shooting occurred at about 10:30 am near the hospital’s main entrance. The attackers are believed to have fired at the victim from very close range.

Relatives later gathered at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the body was taken. Police reported recovering an identification card from the deceased, with initial details indicating his name as Tariq Saif Mamun, a resident of Lakshmipur.

Sub-inspector Md Yasin of Kotwali Police Station said he rushed to the spot after hearing gunshots and found the man injured on the pavement. “It appears he was shot from point-blank range,” he added.

Following the incident, police tightened checks at several access points to the capital. An eyewitness recounted that two men approached the hospital entrance on a motorcycle, shot the victim from behind, and then sped away after firing multiple rounds.

Inspector Md Faruk from Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s police camp stated that the body has been placed in the morgue for post-mortem procedures.
