Karun Nair has been in phenomenal form, scoring century after century, almost forgetting what it feels like to get out. The Indian batter remained unbeaten in four consecutive matches, amassing a record-breaking 542 runs before finally being dismissed in his fifth game. His remarkable streak has set a new world record for the most runs scored without being dismissed in List A cricket.

Playing for Vidarbha, Nair’s extraordinary run began on December 23, 2023, against Jammu & Kashmir, where he scored an unbeaten 112. He followed this with 44* in a small chase against Chhattisgarh. His career-best came in the third match against Chandigarh, where he smashed 163* runs. On December 31, he added another unbeaten century, scoring 111 against Tamil Nadu. Finally, in his first match of 2024, Nair scored 112 against Uttar Pradesh before being dismissed, bringing his streak to an end.

Previously, the record for the most runs without dismissal in List A cricket was held by New Zealand’s James Franklin, who scored 527 runs in 2010. Others on the list include Germany’s Joshua van Heerden (512), Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman (455), and Taufeeq Umar (422).

Despite his stellar domestic performances, Nair has struggled to secure a regular spot in the Indian national team. Known for his triple century (303*) against England in 2016, he lost his place to Ajinkya Rahane in the very next game. To date, Nair has played just six Tests and two ODIs for India.
