The Border-Gavaskar Trophy has become crucial for both India and Australia in their bid to reach the World Test Championship final. India initially took the lead in the series by winning the first Test in Perth, but Australia made a strong comeback in the pink-ball Test in Adelaide, comfortably defeating India. This victory leveled the five-match series 1-1.
On the third day, India started their second innings trailing by 157 runs. However, they were dismissed for just 175 runs, adding only 47 runs from their last five wickets. This left Australia with a target of just 19 runs. Australian bowlers, led by Pat Cummins, performed excellently in the second innings, with Cummins taking 5 wickets, Scott Boland 3, and Mitchell Starc 2.
The Australian openers required only 20 balls to chase down the small target, completing the win in the first session of Day 3. The match, which lasted only 1,031 balls, marked the shortest-ever Test match between India and Australia.
Earlier, India’s batting collapsed in the first innings, where they were bowled out for just 180 runs. Mitchell Starc delivered a devastating performance, taking 6 wickets for 48 runs. Australia’s first innings was led by Travis Head, who scored a brilliant 140 runs off 141 balls, earning the Player of the Match award. For India, Mohammad Siraj and Mohammad Shami both took four wickets.
