Bangladesh Coach Advises Fans to Be Patient

Zimbabwe’s Test team has been struggling for the past four years, failing to win a single Test match during this period. Yet, it was against this very Zimbabwe side that Najmul Hossain Shanto’s Bangladesh suffered a surprising defeat in the Sylhet Test.
Following the loss, Bangladesh faced heavy criticism from fans and media. With the second Test of the two-match series scheduled to begin tomorrow in Chattogram, head coach Phil Simmons spoke to reporters today, urging supporters to remain patient.
The West Indian coach emphasized that the team is working hard to move in the right direction. “I would ask everyone, especially the Bangladesh fans, to be patient,” Simmons said. “There is a lot of passion and love for the game here. Everyone wants Bangladesh to perform better, and we are trying to do the right things to ensure that improvement.”
In the Sylhet Test, although three Bangladeshi batters managed to score half-centuries, none were able to convert their starts into a big innings. Several dismissals came from poor shot selections — a point Simmons addressed during his press conference. He remarked, “I’ve told the players that we lost our wickets through some soft dismissals. If we want to move forward, we have to eliminate these mistakes. It’s not enough to perform in just two or three matches — we need consistent performances.”
