Indian media outlets, particularly The Times of India, are reporting that the much-anticipated India-Pakistan clash is scheduled for September 7.

Tensions in Asian cricket have been high due to prolonged regional political instability. Bangladesh’s regime change following a mass uprising and strained diplomatic ties between India and neighboring nations, especially after the Pahalgam attack, have deeply impacted the cricketing landscape. These developments even led to the suspension of franchise leagues like the IPL and PSL. Though foreign players initially withdrew over security concerns, some later returned—but the tournaments struggled to regain their previous glory.

A cold war-like atmosphere settled between India and Pakistan, affecting not just bilateral series but also discussions around avoiding each other in ICC and ACC events. While the boards remained diplomatically distant, public discourse and media sentiment reflected a mutual reluctance to engage.

Despite these hurdles, intervention from ICC Chairman Jay Shah and ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi helped ease tensions, allowing plans for the Asia Cup to proceed.
