Mitchell Starc once again proved why he’s regarded as the king of pink-ball Tests. The left-arm pacer delivered a blistering performance in the third and final Test against West Indies at Sabina Park, turning the day-night match into a nightmare for the hosts. On his 100th Test appearance, Starc dismantled the West Indian batting lineup with a fiery spell, claiming 5 wickets in just 15 deliveries—a new world record for the fewest balls needed to take a five-wicket haul. He finished with figures of 6 for 9 in just 7.3 overs, helping bundle out the hosts for a shocking 27 runs while chasing a target of 204.
This performance not only etched a new record in the books but also marked a major milestone for Starc—he reached the coveted 400 Test wickets, becoming only the fourth Australian to achieve the feat after Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, and Nathan Lyon. He’s also the second Australian fast bowler after McGrath to play 100 Tests.
In the same match, Scott Boland added to the spectacle with a hat-trick in just two overs, conceding only two runs. The remaining wicket was claimed by Josh Hazlewood.
Despite his remarkable performance, Starc described the match as “uncomfortable,” largely due to the overwhelming attention leading up to his 100th Test. “The whole week felt a bit awkward,” he said. “I’m just happy we won and I could sing the team song with the boys. It’s been a special week—wearing the baggy green and enjoying the game. I’ll definitely cherish this experience for a long time.”
