Following the devastating crash of a Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet into Milestone School and College in Uttara, which resulted in significant loss of life, the Supreme Court has instructed all courts across the country to observe a one-minute silence as a mark of respect.
On Tuesday morning (July 22), this directive was issued by the Supreme Court administration under the guidance of the Chief Justice. The instruction has been sent to the High Court Division as well as all subordinate courts, urging them to hold a minute of silence before commencing court proceedings.
The tragic incident occurred on Monday afternoon (July 21), shortly after 1:00 PM, when a Bangladesh Air Force combat aircraft lost control and crashed into a building of Milestone School and College in Uttara. The impact caused both the aircraft and the building to catch fire. Many students were inside the building at the time, leading to multiple casualties.
Emergency services responded immediately. Eight units of the Fire Service rushed to the scene, soon joined by members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Army. The wounded were evacuated by Air Force helicopters and taken to various hospitals for treatment.
As per the latest updates, the death toll has risen to 27, including 25 children, according to Dr. Md. Sayedur Rahman, special health adviser to the Prime Minister’s chief advisor. Over a hundred others, including students and staff, are currently being treated for injuries.
