Massive shipment of rice imported from Vietnam arrives at Chattogram

A shipment carrying 12,700 metric tons of non-parboiled (Atap) rice from Vietnam has arrived at the Port of Chattogram, according to a press release from the Ministry of Food. This delivery is part of a government-to-government (G2G) agreement with Vietnam to import a total of 100,000 metric tons of rice aimed at boosting national food reserves. So far, 60,000 metric tons have already reached Bangladesh under this deal.
The rice, imported from Vietnam Southern Food Corporation at a rate of $474.25 per ton, brings the total cost of the deal to approximately Tk 5.78 billion. The sample inspection of the rice from the newly arrived shipment has been completed, and unloading procedures are set to begin shortly. The Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase approved the import proposal in January this year to strengthen food stockpiles.
