Bangladesh’s Innovation Model Presented in Doha

At the Arthna Summit held in Doha, Qatar, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus shared compelling stories on how microcredit and social business can transform lives. In his keynote speech during the opening session on Tuesday, Dr. Yunus emphasized the global impact of these initiatives, not just in Bangladesh but around the world. His press secretary, Shafiqul Alam, later briefed state news agency BSS with details of the address.
According to the press secretary, Dr. Yunus highlighted real-life examples of how marginalized communities have experienced life-changing progress through access to microloans and social enterprise models.
In a separate update, the press secretary also stated that the interim government has begun clearing long-overdue LNG import payments to Qatar—debts that were not addressed under the previous administration led by Sheikh Hasina. He confirmed that the government has already repaid a major portion of the dues, and around $37 million still outstanding will be settled within the next couple of days.
The two-day summit, held on April 22–23, is being attended by Dr. Yunus as part of his four-day official visit to Qatar.
