BNP’s Senior Joint Secretary General, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, stated that February 21 has always inspired people to stand against fascism. He recalled that this spirit led to the achievements of the 1990s, and if fascism or dictatorship rises again, February 21 will once more motivate the people of Bangladesh to take to the streets in resistance.

Speaking to journalists after paying tribute at the Central Shaheed Minar on International Mother Language Day, Rizvi highlighted the fall of the despised autocrat Ershad and how the same path led to the ousting of Sheikh Hasina, whom he referred to as the “mother of bloodthirsty Awami fascism,” from power on August 5, 2024, after 17 years of rule. He asserted that February 21 has always been a source of inspiration, urging people to join the struggle against oppression.

He described February 21 as both a day of mourning and a source of pride, emphasizing that the 1952 language movement paved the way for student movements, the autonomy movement, the fight for independence, and ultimately the Liberation War.

Addressing the issue of elections and an interim government, Rizvi stated that the government’s primary responsibility is to ensure a free and fair election while implementing necessary reforms. He stressed the need to reassure the public, particularly the younger generation, who have never had the chance to vote.

Several BNP leaders, including Advisory Council Member Abdus Salam, Joint Secretary Generals Khairul Kabir and Habib-un-Nabi Khan, International Affairs Secretary Nasir Uddin, and Publicity Secretary Sultan Salauddin, were present, along with BNP Executive Committee Member Ishraq Hossain and North BNP Convener Aminul Haque. Following their tribute, BNP leaders and activists from various affiliated organizations continued to pay their respects for about an hour and a half. At around 9:30 AM, Aminul Haque addressed the media, marking the conclusion of the event.
