The BNP has decided to confront all attempts to delay the national election, including the formation of an interim government, through direct action. The party believes that there are ongoing efforts to delay the election by raising demands for a constituent assembly, second republic, and local government elections, with the backing of several government advisors. In a virtual meeting of the party’s standing committee on Monday night, it was discussed that the government is not recognizing the political strength of BNP and other democratic parties, while instead considering an Islamic party, the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) of youth, and student groups as the political forces. It is believed that the government is unlikely to easily relinquish power or hold elections. Additionally, some leaders in the meeting expressed concern that the government has become overly dependent on NGOs and needs pressure to be exerted on it for holding elections. The BNP has been organizing rallies across districts and cities to assert its stance, and it is expected that new plans for the election movement will be announced after Eid. The meeting also highlighted that certain groups are conspiring to discredit the interim government and create chaos in the country. These conspiracies are believed to be supported by some government insiders, including businessmen with ties to the ruling party, who are working against the government. Despite this, the BNP’s unwavering support for the government continues. The meeting was chaired virtually from London by BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, and attended by key party leaders including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Dr. Khondkar Mosharraf Hossain, and others.
