BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stated that the party will successfully resist any conspiracy and establish democracy. He warned that BNP would take to the streets if necessary to protect the interests of the country and its people.
Speaking at an Eid gift distribution event for the underprivileged in the Beribadh area of Dhaka’s 100 Feet Road on Saturday (March 29) afternoon, Mirza Fakhrul said that both domestic and international conspiracies were ongoing, but no plot would be allowed to succeed. He emphasized that if anyone from France, London, or America tried to incite the people, they would be stopped, and no instability in the country would be tolerated.
He further stated, “BNP does not take to the streets now, but if the party and the people’s interests are attacked, BNP will return to the field.”
Clarifying BNP’s stance, he said, “BNP is neither on India’s side nor Pakistan’s, neither on America’s side nor England’s. BNP stands for Bangladesh.”
He also mentioned that BNP has been fighting against India’s aggressive stance and that their struggle has continued for 17 years to build a prosperous nation. However, he claimed that some were misinterpreting this struggle and trying to create division, which would not be allowed. He pointed out that BNP had protested on the banks of the Teesta River against India’s actions.
Recalling BNP’s contributions to democratic reforms, he asserted, “BNP brought about all the changes, BNP led the reforms. It abolished one-party rule and established multi-party democracy. BNP also introduced the caretaker government system.”
During his speech, Mirza Fakhrul remembered the sacrifices of BNP leaders and activists in their 17-year-long struggle for democracy, mentioning the oppression, false cases, disappearances, and killings they had endured. He claimed that 99% of those persecuted were BNP supporters. He then remarked, “One day, suddenly, Allah made Hasina disappear, and the people found peace. Allah saved the country from the witch’s grasp and created new opportunities.”
He praised the collective efforts of students and the masses in freeing the country from the “fearsome monster” and called for the swiftest possible elections.
Additionally, he mentioned that Dr. Yunus had been chosen by the people as the government’s chief advisor, ensuring a level playing field for elections. He reiterated that all struggles had been for elections, and BNP had always advocated for them. However, he warned that the current government could not stay in power indefinitely without public representation.
Mirza Fakhrul also accused a certain group of trying to create chaos in the country to delay the elections.
