BNP Sees February Election as Key to Democratic Change

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that his party welcomes the recently announced February election schedule, describing it as a crucial step toward restoring democracy in Bangladesh.

Speaking at a press conference at the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Wednesday, Fakhrul said the announcement by Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has created a roadmap for political transformation.

“We believe this historic declaration will help usher in a new democratic era,” he said. “Once the political parties begin to fulfill the commitments outlined in the July Declaration, the foundation for a truly democratic Bangladesh will be laid.”

BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed also attended the media briefing.

Fakhrul expressed hope that the spirit of the July Declaration would be respected and implemented by all political stakeholders, ensuring free, fair, and inclusive elections in February 2026.
