BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman has called on the interim administration to conduct a proper and lawful probe into the assault on Gono Odhikar Parishad chief Nurul Haque Nur and the unrest in Kakrail.

He said BNP strongly denounces the incident and extends wishes for Nur’s quick recovery.

Posting from his verified Facebook account, Tarique stressed that Bangladesh is passing through a fragile stage of democratic transition, where the first step is holding national elections. “We must work together to ensure that disruptive events like today’s do not derail the path to democracy,” he wrote.

According to him, all pro-democracy forces—including BNP and its partners—need to act with patience and restraint.

He further noted that the essence of last year’s people’s movement should guide the nation. “Bangladesh must move away from chaos and instability,” he remarked.

Tarique emphasized that safeguarding against mob culture, ensuring the rule of law, and fostering peace and stability are vital. He said true progress will only come by empowering citizens through democracy and guaranteeing justice, equality, and dignity for everyone.
