Md. Abu Zahed sent baggage via air cargo on a flight from Dubai, declaring it contained cosmetics. On Tuesday night around 8:30 PM, his flight landed at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram. During routine scanning of the unaccompanied baggage (U-baggage), customs officials discovered gold jewelry worth approximately BDT 2.159 million that had been falsely declared.

Officials said that during scanning of the passenger’s baggage on the Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight, items resembling jewelry were detected. When the baggage was opened, customs found a bracelet, a bangle, and a ring, with a combined weight exceeding 120 grams and an estimated value of BDT 2.159 million.

Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil, Public Relations Officer at Shah Amanat International Airport, told Prothom Alo that passengers carrying baggage over 60 kilograms must pay customs duty. However, Zahed had declared the items as cosmetics upon returning from Dubai, and the gold jewelry was uncovered during scanning and subsequently seized.
