Prime Minister Tarique Rahman Moves into Jamuna: Accommodation Arrangements for Ministers and State Officials
Following the formation of the new government in Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman has chosen the state guesthouse Jamuna as his official residence. Located on Hair Road in Dhaka, the property offers convenient access to the Prime Minister’s Office and other government secretariat buildings.
The Department of Government Housing completed the allocation of residences for cabinet ministers and state ministers on Wednesday. Currently, Professor Muhammad Yunus, the recently dissolved interim government’s Chief Adviser, is staying at Jamuna. He is scheduled to vacate the residence on 27 February, according to the Department of Government Housing under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.
Md. Khalekuzzaman Chowdhury, Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department, told reporters that renovations at Jamuna will be completed before the Prime Minister moves in. During the interim government, the Prime Minister’s residence was temporarily located near the National Parliament and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, but due to time constraints and other considerations, those locations were not selected for the new government.
Prime Minister Rahman currently resides in Gulshan and travels from there to the Secretariat on Abdul Ghani Road and the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon. He has expressed interest in hosting events such as Iftar during Ramadan and upcoming Eid celebrations at Jamuna, prompting a fast-track renovation schedule.
The Jamuna property spans approximately 3.25 acres at 30 Hair Road. Nearby properties, 24 and 25 Hair Road, previously used by security personnel for the former Chief Adviser, will now be allocated to security officials assigned to the Prime Minister.
After the fall of the previous Awami League government, the official Prime Minister’s residence was Ganabhaban. During the 2024 uprising, Ganabhaban was extensively damaged and has since been repurposed as the “July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum,” leaving it unavailable as a residence.
The Department of Government Housing also finalized allocations for ministers and state ministers. Some renovations remain, so officials will move in after Eidul Fitr. The allocations are as follows:
