At least nine people were killed and dozens wounded in a wave of Russian missile and drone strikes across Ukraine, Ukrainian officials said Tuesday, accusing Moscow of using ballistic missiles supplied by North Korea.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the latest attacks caused the heaviest casualties in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, where six people were killed and 19 others wounded.

Zelenskyy said Russian forces used North Korean ballistic missiles alongside Zircon missiles and guided aerial weapons in the attack. He accused Moscow of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure.

Ukraine’s claim came after Zelenskyy said Russia was continuing to obtain additional ballistic missiles and military personnel from North Korea. He did not provide evidence to support the claim.

The Ukrainian president has repeatedly accused Pyongyang of providing military assistance to Russia during the war, now in its fifth year. Western governments, Kyiv and South Korean intelligence agencies have also accused North Korea of supplying weapons and troops to support Russia’s war effort.

North Korea has deployed thousands of troops to Russia’s Kursk region, according to Ukrainian and Western officials, after Ukrainian forces launched an incursion into the area during the conflict.

Three more people were killed in Russian missile and drone strikes in the neighboring Dnipropetrovsk region, according to local authorities.

Zelenskyy said Russian attacks also damaged an infectious disease hospital in Kyiv. Strikes in the southern city of Kherson and the northeastern city of Kharkiv disrupted electricity supplies, he said.

Russia’s Defense Ministry acknowledged carrying out long-range strikes but said its forces had targeted military-industrial facilities as well as transportation and logistics hubs in Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia.

The conflicting accounts could not be independently verified.

The latest strikes come as Russia continues its campaign of missile and drone attacks against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure, while Kyiv seeks greater international support for its air defenses and military capabilities.
