Bangladesh Ranks Second in Asylum Applications to Canada

India tops the list of countries with the highest number of asylum applications in Canada, followed by Bangladesh, according to data from Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Board. The list, covering the period from December 15, 2012, to September 30, 2024, reveals a total of 249,857 asylum applications filed during this time. Of these, 146,828 are under review, and 33,583 have been approved.
For India, 23,905 applications are currently under review, 1,621 have been approved, and 30,787 remain pending. Bangladesh ranks second, with 14,581 applications under review, 541 approved, and 16,375 pending. Nigeria holds the third position with 13,040 applications under review, 1,497 approved, and 17,747 pending.
