The “Boishakh Rally of Joy” began on Monday (April 14) with the theme “Symphony of the New Year, End to Fascism,” and concluded back at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka. Thousands of people participated in the vibrant morning procession, which started at 9 AM in front of the faculty, passed through Shahbagh, TSC, the Central Shaheed Minar, the Physical Education Center, and the Bangla Academy road, before returning to its starting point around 10:30 AM. Participants included students and teachers from the Faculty of Fine Arts, students from other institutions, members of cultural organizations, and people of all ages. Notably, the event also attracted international students and tourists from countries like Japan, France, Russia, and Germany—many dressed in traditional Bengali attire, dancing and playing instruments such as flutes. The procession showcased large handcrafted artworks like masks, puppets, and bamboo-made tigers, birds, and fish to reflect rural life and the human bond with nature. One striking feature was a symbolic face representing fascism, which captured much attention. After an earlier version of the face was burned, a new one was crafted from board materials. Also drawing significant focus was a motif commemorating Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho—killed during the July movement—featuring the words “We need water.”
