A newly released video has offered a rare glimpse into the daily prison routine of Ghislaine Maxwell, the former partner of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who is serving a sentence for her role in trafficking minors for sexual exploitation.

Maxwell was found guilty in 2021 of helping Epstein recruit and abuse underage girls. The footage was recorded while she was being held at New York’s Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, a facility long criticized for its poor conditions.

The video surfaced last week after the US Department of Justice made public a large collection of Epstein-related documents. The surveillance recording dates back to July 1, 2020, shortly before 2 p.m.

In the footage, Maxwell is first seen calmly cleaning the sink inside her cell. Dressed in an orange prison uniform, she then walks slowly toward her bed, where she neatly folds a thin duvet and bedsheet. An extra orange jumpsuit can be seen placed near her pillow.

The video concludes with Maxwell putting on her glasses, lying down on the bed, and picking up a book to read. She stretches and settles in, ending the quiet sequence.

The Metropolitan Detention Center has a reputation for harsh and deteriorating conditions. Former warden Cameron Lindsay previously described it as one of the most troubled detention facilities in the United States. High-profile detainees have passed through the center over the years.

After the video was recorded, Maxwell was transferred to a federal prison in Texas, often referred to as “Club Fed” due to its comparatively better conditions. The transfer followed two days of meetings totaling nine hours with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.

Maxwell has reportedly compared the Texas facility favorably to MDC, once likening it to a far more comfortable, almost surreal environment. Still, her current prison life stands in sharp contrast to the luxurious lifestyle she once enjoyed alongside Epstein.

During the years she was involved in Epstein’s trafficking network, Maxwell frequently traveled to his private island, Little Saint James, and flew around the world aboard his private jet. She was often photographed with powerful figures, including former US President Bill Clinton, current President Donald Trump, and Britain’s Prince Andrew.

Since her imprisonment, Maxwell has repeatedly sought a presidential pardon or sentence reduction from the Trump administration. In October last year, Trump acknowledged that he had the authority to grant clemency but said he would need to review the matter.

He later told reporters that he had not thought about Maxwell in some time and would need to look into the issue further. Trump has made no additional public comments on the possibility of her release, though he has previously described Epstein as a “strange individual.”

Despite being photographed multiple times with Epstein in the 1990s, Trump has consistently downplayed their association and denied any involvement in Epstein’s crimes. No charges have been brought against him in connection with the case.
