Counting of ballots has started in the Dhaka-11 constituency for the 13th National Parliamentary Election. Early results from two polling stations at Ekramunnesa High School in Rampura indicate a closely contested race between the BNP candidate and the nominee of the 11-party alliance.

Representing the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) with the “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol is MA Kaiyum. Competing against him under the “Water Lily Bud” symbol is Nahid Islam, the candidate backed by the 11-party alliance.

At one of the polling stations in Ekramunnesa High School, MA Kaiyum secured 466 votes, while Nahid Islam received 338 votes.

However, results from another station at the same school showed the opposite trend. There, Nahid Islam led with 713 votes, compared to 430 votes for Kaiyum.

When combining the results from both centers in Rampura, Nahid Islam stands ahead with a total of 1,051 votes, surpassing MA Kaiyum by 155 votes. Kaiyum has so far obtained 896 votes.

Voting began at 7:30 a.m. and concluded at 4:30 p.m. Following the close of polls, counting commenced at centers across the country.

Election Commissioner Brigadier General Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah stated that the Election Commission will compile results received from across the country and formally announce the outcome on Friday morning, the day after the election.

According to commission sources, voting took place in 299 constituencies nationwide, as polling in Sherpur-3 was suspended due to the death of a Jamaat-e-Islami candidate. A total of 127,711,893 registered voters were eligible to cast their ballots. Of them, 64,825,361 are men and 62,885,200 are women. Voting was conducted at 42,779 polling centers.

Fifty political parties participated in the election, with 2,028 candidates contesting overall. Among them, 1,755 ran as party nominees, while 273 competed as independent candidates.

In addition to selecting their parliamentary representatives, voters were also asked to cast a “Yes” or “No” vote on the proposed implementation of the “July Charter 2025,” aimed at bringing significant constitutional reforms.
