High Court Verdict Keeps Ban on Awami League Activities Intact

The High Court has dismissed a writ petition challenging the legality of the government’s notification banning all activities of the Bangladesh Awami League, ruling that the petition had not been properly filed.
The order was issued on Sunday by a High Court bench comprising Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan.
The petition was filed on September 7 by Md. Al Amin, a resident of Srinagar in Munshiganj district. Lawyer Yunus Ali represented the petitioner before the court.
The writ sought a rule asking why the government notification issued on May 12, 2025, should not be declared beyond legal authority. It also requested a stay on the enforcement of the notification while the matter remained under judicial review.
The notification, issued by the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, banned all activities of the Awami League, its affiliated bodies, associate organizations, and allied groups until legal proceedings against their leaders and activists are completed at the International Crimes Tribunal.
According to the government order, the ban covers all forms of political activities, including publications, media appearances, online and social media campaigns, rallies, processions, public meetings, conferences, and other organizational activities.
With the High Court dismissing the petition, the government notification remains in force.
