Former Bangladesh women’s cricket captain Jahanara Alam wants to represent the national team once again before retiring from international cricket, expressing her desire to return to both international and domestic cricket after an extended break.
The 33-year-old fast bowler has informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) of her intention to return. The board says it will discuss the matter and make a decision soon.
According to cricket website Cricbuzz, Jahanara herself initiated contact to express her interest in returning to the game. BCB women’s cricket chief Rafiqul Islam Babu also confirmed the development, saying the former captain wants to resume playing and end her professional career on the field.
Jahanara last played an international match in December 2024. In early 2025, she took an indefinite break from cricket, saying she was not mentally prepared to continue. She later moved to Australia and has since remained absent from the national team, domestic cricket and other women’s cricket activities.
Confirming their communication, Babu said, “Yes, she contacted us and strongly expressed that she wants to come back and play.”
According to Babu, personal disputes and internal team conflicts should not take precedence over the interests of the country. He said Jahanara had told him that her goal was to retire after playing for the national team again.
The pacer has also maintained her fitness in preparation for a possible return.
Jahanara became a major talking point in Bangladesh women’s cricket in November 2025, when she accused former selector Manjurul Islam of sexual harassment. Following a report by an independent investigation committee, the BCB permanently banned Manjurul.
