Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has announced that three specialized police units will soon be deployed to curb robbery and snatching incidents in Bangladesh.

He stated, “Snatching incidents have increased both at night and during the day. We have decided to implement special measures to counter this. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police, RAB, and the Anti-Terrorism Unit will conduct joint operations. We hope to implement this from Monday and see if it improves the situation. If not, we will adopt alternative plans.”

Speaking at a workshop on law enforcement, human rights, and environmental concerns amid changing national conditions at the Primary Training Center in Rajshahi on Monday morning, the IGP emphasized the necessity of a substantial joint force component in such operations. He remarked, “The police alone may not have a large enough component, but a joint force functions as a cohesive unit.”

He further mentioned “Operation Devil Hunt,” an ongoing initiative targeting criminals and anti-social elements, which began several days ago. “Take note of those being apprehended under Devil Hunt,” he said. “Major criminals and smugglers are being arrested.”

The IGP also suggested that certain groups might not want a stable environment in Bangladesh, possibly due to political motives.
