The ongoing issue of unpaid salaries has put Durbar Rajshahi under significant criticism during the current BPL season. Players from the team even boycotted practice during the Chattogram leg. However, amidst this controversy, Rajshahi defeated the high-flying Rangpur Riders by 24 runs on Thursday.
After the match, Rajshahi’s star player Ryan Burl addressed the salary issue during a press conference. He stated, “Every player steps onto the field to win. This was a do-or-die match for us, and we had to win. Our focus was entirely on the game. Two matches remain, and we’re determined to maintain this momentum. As for payments, I don’t handle that; it’s up to our agents. I’m here just to play cricket.”
Burl also shared his experience of taking a remarkable catch in the game, saying, “I missed it on the first attempt as the ball came close to my injured area. But I feel lucky to have caught it on the second attempt. Without the injury, I might have taken it on the first try. That’s cricket—sometimes you succeed, sometimes you fail. But I’m thrilled I held onto it in the end.”
Meanwhile, Rangpur captain Nurul Hasan Sohan commented on the professionalism and fan base of BPL franchises. He remarked, “Teams like Rangpur and Barishal have strong fanbases, as do Sylhet and Chattogram. If franchises were managed more professionally, stadium attendance would increase. Professionalism is the key.”
Sohan further emphasized, “There’s professionalism in the BPL, but franchises still have room for improvement. Managing teams like Rangpur, Barishal, or Chattogram with a professional mindset would attract even more fan interest. Franchises should operate with this approach.”
