“Now not only editors and journalists are being attacked, their families are also being targeted. The miscreants are attacking the sons and daughters of journalists to vent their anger, ruining their lives.”

The speakers expressed their extreme concern at a human chain of journalists organized in front of the Chittagong Press Club today.

The Chittagong Reporters Association (CRA) organized the human chain in protest against the two attacks and vandalism at the Khagrachari residence of Hasan Al Mamun, editor of the daily Kaler Pratichhabi.

The human chain held under the chairmanship of CRA President Sohag Arefin and moderated by General Secretary Nurul Amin Khokon was addressed by Bangladesh Journalist Community (BSC) Chief Advisor Saidur Rahman Rimon, (BSC) Publicity Secretary Jewel Khandaker, CRA Organizing Secretary Md. Rubel, Office Secretary Md. Ashraf Uddin, BMUJ – Chittagong President Shahidul Islam, General Secretary Humayun Kabir Rabbi and others.

Members of various journalist organizations including CRA, BMUJ were present at the human chain.

The speakers said that the police has been playing a passive role despite the identified miscreants repeatedly attacking Hasan Al Mamun, a well-known journalist in Greater Chittagong, and his family members. The miscreants are now targeting and threatening his schoolgirls. Journalist leaders have demanded urgent intervention from senior police officials, including the DIG of Chittagong, to arrest the attackers and terrorists within 48 hours and take exemplary action.
