Bhutan PM Makes Brief Transit Stop in Dhaka En Route to Germany

Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay made a brief transit stop in Dhaka on Friday while travelling to Germany.
Tobgay arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 1:55 p.m., where he was received by Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr. Abdul Moin Khan and State Minister for Foreign Affairs-1 Humayun Kabir.
During a brief meeting at the airport, the minister and state minister conveyed the warm greetings of Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to the Bhutanese prime minister.
They also praised the longstanding and steadily strengthening friendly relations between Bangladesh and Bhutan, recalling Bhutan’s historic decision to become the first country to recognise Bangladesh as an independent state in 1971.
The two sides discussed a range of bilateral issues of mutual interest during the meeting.
Recalling the vision of the late President Ziaur Rahman for a prosperous South Asia, the Bangladeshi representatives sought Bhutan’s support for efforts to revive the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) in the collective interests of the region and its people.
The Bhutanese ambassador to Bangladesh and senior officials from Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also present during the meeting.
After spending around an hour at the VIP Lounge, Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay departed Dhaka for Germany.
