Coffee Is More Than Just a Drink — Today Is Coffee Day
Coffee is not merely a cup of beverage — it’s our wake-up partner in the morning, a reason to catch up with old friends, or even the start of something new. A stroll through the capital reveals coffee shops lined along the streets, proof of how deeply people are connected with coffee.
But why so much talk about coffee today? Because for coffee lovers, this day is special — it’s International Coffee Day. Of course, you don’t need a designated day to enjoy coffee, but today gives enthusiasts an extra reason to celebrate.
How to mark the day?
The simplest way is to enjoy a cup of your favorite brew — black, with milk and sugar, latte, americano, or cappuccino. You might even try exploring flavors from around the world: Turkish coffee brewed in an ibrik, Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk, or even Irish coffee. Each brings a unique experience.
The brewing method itself can change the taste — whether it’s French press, moka pot, Chemex, or AeroPress, every cup feels different.
A glimpse into coffee’s journey:
Coffee is believed to have originated in Ethiopia. According to legend, a shepherd noticed his goats became energetic after eating coffee berries. By the 15th century, it had spread to Arabia, then across Asia, Europe, and finally the Americas.
Modern coffee culture began only about fifty years ago with the rise of “third wave” coffee shops. International Coffee Day was first officially observed in 2015 in Milan, Italy, aimed at highlighting the struggles of coffee growers and promoting fair trade.
Though different countries celebrate on different dates, October 1 is the most recognized.
So, when you take your cup of coffee today, savor it a little differently. Think about how it traveled all the way from the Ethiopian highlands to your table. Most importantly — drink with joy and enjoy the taste of your favorite coffee!
