Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to building a welfare-oriented healthcare system where financial hardship does not prevent citizens from receiving medical treatment.

Speaking at the inauguration of the second building of the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital, the Prime Minister said the government aims to ensure that all citizens have access to quality healthcare services regardless of their economic condition.

He noted that the newly expanded 500-bed facility will significantly increase the country’s medical capacity. Equipped with modern intensive care units, operating theatres, advanced diagnostic technologies, and specialized treatment wards, the new building is expected to strengthen patient care, medical research, and higher education in the health sector.

The Prime Minister emphasized that technology alone cannot create an effective healthcare system. He stressed the importance of empathy, respect, and communication between healthcare professionals, patients, and their families, saying compassionate care plays a vital role in successful treatment outcomes.

According to him, the government is also focusing on improving healthcare access for people living in remote and underserved areas. Through initiatives such as the E-Health Card system, authorities aim to establish a more efficient referral network and reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for medical services.

As part of broader healthcare reforms, the government plans to gradually upgrade hospitals in every upazila to 151-bed facilities during its current term, improving healthcare coverage and accessibility across the country.

The Prime Minister said these measures are intended to create a healthcare system where quality medical services are available closer to home and where no citizen is excluded because of financial limitations.
