Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has conveyed his heartfelt wishes for the swift and full recovery of Begum Khaleda Zia, the BNP chairperson and former Prime Minister of Bangladesh. In an official letter dated 31 January, Sharif described Khaleda Zia as a prominent and influential figure in Bangladesh’s political history, lauding her steadfast dedication to public service as an inspiration to many. Expressing concern over her health, he wrote, “I am deeply concerned to hear about your health issues and wish you a speedy and complete recovery.” Sharif also offered prayers for her health, stating, “May Allah the Almighty protect you from all ailments and grant you good health.”

BNP media cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan confirmed the receipt of this letter on 2 February. Khaleda Zia, who has served as Prime Minister three times, has been battling multiple health conditions, including liver cirrhosis, kidney and heart complications, diabetes, and arthritis. In early January, she left Dhaka for London via a special air ambulance provided by the Emir of Qatar to undergo advanced medical treatment at The London Clinic. The 79-year-old was admitted on 8 January and discharged on 25 January. She is currently continuing her treatment at her son Tarique Rahman’s residence under the care of Professors John Patrick Kennedy and Jennifer Cross, who had previously overseen her treatment at the clinic.
