Dr. Muhammad Yunus Departs Dhaka for Qatar

Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has departed Dhaka for Qatar on a four-day official visit. He left on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight to Doha at 7 PM on Monday, April 21. Accompanying him are Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain, National Security Adviser Dr. Khalilur Rahman, and other senior officials, as confirmed by Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.
According to Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, Dr. Yunus is set to participate in the Earthna Summit on April 22 and 23, hosted by Qatar’s royal family. He is scheduled to meet the Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and may also hold discussions with the Emir of Qatar. Energy Adviser Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan is also part of the delegation, with energy cooperation—particularly the existing long-term LNG import deal—on the agenda. Discussions are also expected on visa-related matters and enhancing economic cooperation through a major business summit involving Qatar’s top investors.
Dr. Yunus will also attend meetings with Qatar Charity and the Qatar Foundation. He is scheduled to give an interview at Al Jazeera’s headquarters. In addition, he will lead a significant 2.5-hour-long conference on the Rohingya crisis, attended by stakeholders from various organizations. This conference is seen as a precursor to a major UN-led discussion on the issue, aiming to revive global focus and possibly accelerate solutions. The delegation is expected to return to Dhaka late at night on April 24.
