IMF agrees to release two tranches together: Salehuddin

Bangladesh’s Economic Adviser Md. Salehuddin Ahmed has stated that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) holds a positive stance toward releasing the fourth and fifth tranches of its $4.7 billion loan program together. Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Tuesday, he said that Bangladesh had requested $1.2 billion in budget support from the IMF, which has been approved. He added that discussions regarding the joint disbursement of the upcoming loan installments have also progressed favorably.

 

Regarding U.S. trade policies, the adviser mentioned that President Donald Trump’s newly proposed tariff measures are being viewed constructively by Bangladesh. He noted that the recent U.S. visit had a positive impact on bilateral trade dialogue, and recommendations have been made to enhance trade cooperation in various sectors. When asked about the three-month suspension of the new tariffs, Salehuddin said Bangladesh will not engage in disputes over trade with a major economy like the U.S. and is preparing for any new developments when the suspension period ends.
