Nafsin Mehnaz Azirin, one of the prominent faces of the July movement and a student of North South University, has strongly criticized the remarks made by Education Minister Ehsanul Haque Milon. She also urged the minister to show greater restraint in his language and behavior.
Speaking at a recent press conference, Mehnaz said that the minister’s words and conduct reflect an “aggressive attitude.” In her words, “He speaks as if he is the only honest person and everyone else is wrong or dishonest. I believe he should improve both his language and behavior.”
Reacting to the Education Minister’s recent comments about private university students, she said, “Two days ago, the Education Minister claimed that giving too much freedom to private university students could lead them toward extremism. But if private university students had not taken to the streets on July 18, it is important to think about where the situation might have ended up.”
Mehnaz further stated that isolated incidents should not be used to blame an entire institution or student community. “Terrorists do not belong to any specific family, society, or institution. The actions of one individual cannot define an entire institution,” she said.
She also pointed out that despite the absence of political structures or student organizations in private universities, their students still played a significant role in the July movement. “We do not have a student union like DUCSU or political student organizations, yet everyone witnessed how actively private university students stood on the streets during the movement,” she added.
