Former Minister Ramesh Chandra Sen Dies in Custody

Ramesh Chandra Sen, a Presidium Member of the Awami League and former Member of Parliament from Thakurgaon-1, has died while in custody. According to Dinajpur district prison authorities, he was taken to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital on Saturday morning, February 7, where doctors on duty declared him dead. Hospital sources said he had already passed away before reaching the facility. Confirming the matter, hospital director Dr. Fazlur Rahman stated that Sen was brought from the district jail to the hospital around 9:30 am in a critically ill condition and was pronounced dead following medical examination. He had been suffering from heart disease for a long time and had previously been admitted to the same hospital from prison for treatment. Ramesh Chandra Sen was elected multiple times as an MP from Thakurgaon-1 and served as a senior Awami League leader as well as former Minister for Food and for Water Resources. He was arrested following the 2024 student-public uprising and had remained in Dinajpur District Jail since then.
