The ninth meeting of the 13th National Parliament’s special committee on constitutional amendments is underway at the National Parliament House in Dhaka.
The meeting began at 11:00 am on Saturday in the Cabinet Room of the Parliament House. A press briefing is scheduled for 4:30 pm to provide details of the discussions.
The meeting is being chaired by committee chairman and Home Affairs Minister Salahuddin Ahmed. Leading legal experts from across the country are participating in the discussions.
The experts are expected to offer opinions and recommendations on drafting a broadly acceptable set of constitutional amendments, advancing comprehensive reforms and strengthening democratic institutions.
According to sources at the meeting, the amendment process is being pursued with priority given to the full implementation of the July National Charter, which was formulated in the wake of Bangladesh’s 2024 mass uprising.
Discussions are also focusing on incorporating the spirit of the uprising into the Constitution and ensuring legal protection and constitutional recognition for those killed or injured during the movement.
Further details are expected to emerge at the scheduled press briefing following the meeting.
