Guterres assures Bangladesh of ongoing UN support for Rohingya crisis

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reiterated the continued support of the United Nations for Bangladesh regarding the Rohingya issue. He made this statement during a speech at an event held at the new UN building in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Saturday morning. Guterres also acknowledged the significant contributions of Bangladeshi peacekeepers to UN peace missions. He discussed Bangladesh’s interim government’s reform initiatives as well.
To mark the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s membership in the United Nations, Guterres visited an exhibition and raised the UN flag at the newly built UN House in Gulshan. After a meeting with the UN Country Team in Bangladesh, he toured the building. Guterres, along with Advisor to the Ministry of Housing, Adilur Rahman Khan, jointly inaugurated the ‘UN House in Bangladesh.’ Other notable attendees included environmental, forest, and climate change advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan and the UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh, Gwen Lewis.
