Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser to the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, will travel directly from Doha to Rome to attend the funeral of Pope Francis, the spiritual leader of the Roman Catholic Church. Currently on a four-day official visit to Doha, the Chief Adviser is expected to depart for Italy this Friday. The Pope’s funeral is scheduled for Saturday.
The information was confirmed by the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, who stated that Professor Yunus shared a warm personal relationship with Pope Francis. As a gesture of respect for his late friend, he will attend the funeral. Aside from the funeral, no other official engagements are scheduled during his visit. Professor Yunus is likely to return to Bangladesh on Sunday.
Pope Francis passed away last Monday at the age of 88, after serving 12 years as the supreme leader of the Roman Catholic Church.
